Dance Teaching Artist / Production Choreographer for Kinder-Grade 8

About the Position:  ARTS ALIVE, the South Bay premier arts provider is looking for an exceptional dance instructor for Summer Camp and into the School Year. During the Summer Camp, the teaching artist will act as a children’s production Choreographer. The teaching artist who joins us should be prepared to reach and teach the next generation of artists. This candidate is ready to grow with the organization and expand on his or her teaching skills.

The type of teaching artists who stay with us: Performing arts teachers who have some private students but need more hours of teaching, want to have a network group to grow as a teacher, have professional work on weekends but need teaching hours during the week. All our teachers love to teach and pass on their skills using our organizational values.

DANCE INSTRUCTOR:
The dance teacher we engage must be versed in classroom teaching of multiple levels and grades, be able to teach students of different skill levels within the same class, multitasking, prepared to continually perfect their craft and enjoy learning new teaching methods. Dance teacher visits select schools to teach ‘introduction to dance’ classes and a higher-level lyrical/jazz dance team suitable for middle school students.

Every effort is made to ensure every child has access to arts education in our after-school o in the South Bay and Los Angeles. We are a small, efficiently run nonprofit arts education organization.

• Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite
• Highly organized, a self-starter and able to prioritize, track projects and meet deadlines
• Able to solve problems and recommend alternatives to promote program effectiveness

Hours
• Children’s Production Choreographer for summer camp available between June 21 to July 30
• Independent contractor will be scheduled for after-school classes between 2:30 and 6:00pm for up to 12 hours per week during the school year. Work and training outside normal business hours is rare but flexibility is expected.

Kings and Clowns DBA Arts Alive is hiring for a part-time Violin Teaching Artist for Summer Programs, in-school and after-school programs in the South Bay and Los Angeles.  Violin instructors with orchestral teaching experience a plus!

Now Hiring! Paid Summer Production Intern

Position:            Summer Production Intern

Location:           Torrance / North Redondo Beach

Want to learn to work in an educational environment for children?  Apply as a paid intern for summer camp which will culminate in a theatre production! Applicants local to the city of Torrance are a plus as 5 weeks of camp commences at 8:30am each morning. This position is full-time, 40 hours a week over a 10-week period.

Searching for committed artists who are interested in working in an artistic environment with at least two of following skills:

  • Strong interest in educating students under age 12 in performing arts and music
  • Have skills in costume management, sound production or stage management
  • Be prepared to aide teachers with setting up musical instruments
  • An understanding of music or playing an instrument in the past to help students  is a  plus for this position

About the Organization:

Kings and Clowns provides fundamental arts education and performance opportunities for young people in music, dance, and the performing arts. The volunteer Board of Directors and administration ensures that each child has access to quality arts education through in-school and after-school programs throughout Los Angeles County.  This program is funded by Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

Position Description:

Working with the production staff of the Camp Coordinator, Production Director, Producer, Scene Designer, Choreographer and Musical Director the Intern will assist in all areas of the preparation, execution and presentation of the Summer Musical Production for our 2017 summer camp. The intern will work similarly to an assistant producer to effectively teach children the aspects of live theatre.

The Intern will be involved with the day-to-day activities from pre-production work, through rehearsals to opening show. We are looking for a candidate who is eager to learn, curious, can be self-directed, have a sense of humor while working with children. Production Intern must be ready to take direction from Artistic Director and administrative office staff.

  • Phase 1 – Coordinating and Planning
  • Phase 2 – Rehearsals and Production
  • Phase 3 – Completion of Production

Hours:

Independent contractor will be scheduled for summer programs between 8:30am and 4:30pm.  Internship is paid $10.50/hour.

Discipline-Specific Skills and Qualities:

  • Basic knowledge of theater production
  • Interest in learning all aspects of a youth theatre production
  • Strong time-management, organizational skills, and prioritizing skills.
  • Highly-motivated with energy to work with a full staff and children each day
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel is a plus
  • Passion for the arts

This internship is sponsored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.  132 undergraduate interns will participate in the program this year at more than 100 performing, presenting, and literary nonprofit arts organizations and municipal arts agencies throughout LA County.  In addition to their full-time 10 week paid internship, interns will participate in educational events as part of the program, which is funded by the Getty Foundation.  The educational events are designed to provide interns with a broader perspective of the vibrant arts and cultural landscape of the County.
